(Palo, Alto, CA) Hillary Bor (U.S. Army) deftly avoided disaster on the final water jump and managed to finish 3rd and nab the Olympic standard in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at Stanford University’s Payton Jordan Invitational on Sunday.

When Canadian Taylor Milne of Speed River crashed into the final water jump hurdle directly in front of Bor, Bor managed to dodge to the right in mid-air to avoid the fallen runner. The move, however, stalled his forward momentum, slowing his kick. Bor was unable to chase down Canada’s Matt Hughes, who won in 8:22.31, and fellow American Stanley Kebenei, who was second in 8:22.85.

Bor took third in 8:27.01, a personal best, and bettered the Olympic standard of 8:30.00. His mark ranks him #2 in the U.S. and #3 in the world for 2016.
